(There's tons of stuff on this. Here's something I wrote up
to solidify and communicate How to Meditate.)
How to meditate
Concepts for practice the rest of
the day while not sitting are in blue italics
Posture
- Back straight (spine aligned, sitting, standing, prone,
in chair)
- “Mind” exists in the nervous system which is the brain and
spine etc.
- Chakras aligned - First six are the core, then the arms and legs are appendages.
Abdomen is taught and pulled in and up. This aligned
core with stomach tight can be maintained at all times
- Relaxed, Open, Still. Here open is physically
with chest open, shoulders down and back, and figuratively open to experience,
perception, change
Breathing
- Breath is the cord holding the soul to the body
- Key to meditation is awareness of breath - this illuminates the gap of
ego between the self and the divine
- Return to the breath as necessary
- Don’t control the breath – watch it
- Awareness of the breath at all waking times is
a great thing; you can correlate to movements and to emotions. Watch when
and where breath is shallow, clenched, etc.
- Alternate nostral breathing - this balances the "nodies", the
sides of the main meridians, balances the heimispheres of the brain
- Kriya Prana Yama - great warm up to meditation, chakra focused
Thought
- Let thoughts pass like clouds in the sky (clouds are not under your control
and just float on the wind.)
- Let thoughts go like popping bubbles with a feather
- Don't judge your thoughts
- Don't try to not think - this is impossable
- Are you the thinker or the thought?
- Look past the thoughts to see their source
- Quiet the mind and allow the soul nature to manifest
- Try to lenghten, and dwell in, the space between, thoughts
- Constant mindfulness. Attention to the single
task at hand, don’t try to multitask. Be Here Now. Presence. Gratitude
in the moment
- "Your mind is the sky; everything else is just weather." ~ Pema

Things to watch out for
- Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath, at mins 10:06 till 11:00 of this
video says, "...the more concentration you will do it, the more you
will slip into meditation. Meditation cannot be done. I hear people say 'I'm
gonna meditate.' I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that. You cannot meditate.
I'm going to open the flower. This is a beautiful bud of a sunflower or of
a lotus or a rose; I'm going to open it. No no. You have to water the plant
and the flower will open itself, otherwise you'll break the petals. Aye? So
you can't meditate! Nobody can meditate. Meditation happens as a result of
concentration. Concentration is the practice of spiritual growth. You must
know it. The word is sadhanna. Sadhanna is the practice of spiritual growth."
